The Fantasy Art of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic - Gameplay Movies - Epilogue

In Dark Messiah, the world of Heroes of Might and Magic V, Ashan, is greatly expanded beyond the strategic view of a turn-based strategy game into a fully realized and highly interactive 3D world. The fantasy game art is much more detailed and realistic than the cartoony look of Heroes of Might and Magic V, and the possibilities of how to interact and exploit the environment were one of the main features of the game. This page contains some of the in-game movies and cutscenes in Dark Messiah of Might and Magic, showing off the fantasy art and game locations.

The "boss fight" at the end of Dark Messiah of Might and Magic involves confronting Arantir, who in turn summons a skeletal dragon. From Heroes of Might and Magic V: Tribes of the East, we can surmise that this creature is supposed to be the "Avatar of Death" and the ability to summon it is special to Arantir. In the turn-based strategy game Tribes of the East, the creature appears black and shadowy. Since the final showdown in Dark Messiah takes place indoors and in a shadowed cavern, this wouldn't have worked out very well.

There are four possible endings to the single player campaign in Dark Messiah of Might and Magic. Actual gameplay does not vary very much -- the endings are reflected only in the final movie/cutscene. The player must choose to keep either Leanna or Xana alive (he cannot choose both or neither), and he can choose to keep the skull or give it to his father, the Demon Sovereign Kha-Beleth (we know more of his identity, and the "Isabel" named in Dark Messiah, from Heroes of Might and Magic V).
