The Fantasy Art of Dragon Age: Origins - Creature - Sharlock (Shriek)

Back to the main page for The Fantasy Art of Dragon Age: Origins

Dragon Age: Origins is a beautifully rendered fantasy role-playing game with medieval European visualization for the game art direction. Combat is bloody and gruesome, filled with spraying blood and decapitation, but also stylized with special finishing blow animations. The game has various Downloadable Content adventures, items, and small expansions; and one major expansion/sequel, "Awakening".

This page of fantasy game art from Dragon Age: Origins features the type of stealthy assassin darkspawn known as Shrieks. These are born from BroodMothers that were once female elves. Elves that survive the darkspawn taint also apparently become corrupted into Shrieks, as in the case of the Dalish Elf Tamlen. Shriek Alphas use the same model as regular shrieks.

From Codex entry: Shriek:

Scholars call these tall, lean darkspawn the sharlock, though they are more popularly known as shrieks because of the ear-splitting cries they emit in battle. Many tales exist of soldiers being unnerved by the sounds of approaching shrieks, cloaked in darkness and never seen until the moment they strike.

As horrors of the night, shrieks are renowned for their incredible speed and agility as well as their stealth. They are the assassins of the darkspawn, penetrating the enemy lines and striking their targets using long, jagged blades attached to their forearms to rip their opponent to shreds in seconds. They have been known to employ poison, often drawn from their own blood, and have demonstrated cunning group tactics when attacking in numbers.
