The Fantasy Art of Dragon Age: Origins - Places - Ruined Temple

Back to the main page for The Fantasy Art of Dragon Age: Origins

Dragon Age: Origins is a beautifully rendered fantasy role-playing game with medieval European visualization for the game art direction. Combat is bloody and gruesome, filled with spraying blood and decapitation, but also stylized with special finishing blow animations. The game has various Downloadable Content adventures, items, and small expansions; and one major expansion/sequel, "Awakening".

This page of fantasy game art from Dragon Age: Origins features scenes from the Ruined Temple and areas accessed by it. Collapsed sections force detours into a system of caves with small dragons and dragon cultists that finally leads up to the upper temple and out onto the top of a mountain. From there it is a short walk to the resting place of the Urn of Sacred Ashes, within a test of worthiness called The Gauntlet.

At the mountaintop, it is possible to force an encounter with the High Dragon worshipped by the dragon cultists. A coordinated effort with extensive help from mages can handle this encounter quite easily even on Dragon Age's "Nightmare Difficulty" and with limited resources. We have included a video showing how difficult a High Dragon is against a single character forced to fight in hand-to-hand range. The character is a Warrior specializing in two-handed melee weapons and with the Champion and Berserker specializations; set on the default Aggressive Scrapper AI and no other player interaction. The immortality cheat was activated from the console for this demonstration. It ends with the special death animation for High Dragons when killed by hand-to-hand combat (at around 6:55 into the video).

Another High Dragon can be fought at Flemeth's Hut in the Korcari Wilds, but in that battle the dragon does not move from its starting location. On the wide battlefield of the mountaintop, a High Dragon can fly to reposition and pursue higher-priority targets.
