Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna
Dungeon Siege: Legends of Aranna unveils an all-new campaign that will challenge players to explore and fight their way through nine spectacular areas, including an expansive new jungle region, as they unravel the rich history and mystery of the world of Aranna.
Legends of Aranna will also introduce new spells and special over-the-top spell effects to combat fierce new creatures such as Clockwork Beasts and Doppelgangers. Players begin as the latest in a long line of heroes, and as they advance will be able to add a new Half-Giant player character to fill out their party or choose the Half-Giant directly for multiplayer mode. Spells will also be discovered further into the game that can temporarily transform the player character into a wolf, troll or lava monster.
Players will be able to collect rare and powerful treasures, including new consistent styles of armor sets and collectables. Also available is a new pack animal that will defend the player's treasure to the death.
The Fantasy Game Art of Dungeon Siege
For its time, the fantasy art of Dungeon Siege looked excellent, especially when combined with the then-revolutionary and award-winning no-load-screen technology (which helped to preserve the immersion into the fantasy game world), where characters could wander the vast world seamlessly and had a lot of freedom with camera angles. No one else could match it.
Dungeon Siege quickly gained popularity and was modded extensively. The game had one official expansion, Legends of Aranna, and two official free mini-games available for download: Return to Arhok (to promote Windows XP) and Yesterhaven (to encourage the multiplayer mode).
The quality of the game art varied a lot. Many models and items were angular and blurry, while others had sharp detail and were very well done. Inventory icons were typically very well done and there were hundreds to choose from, but only rarely did they closely match the actual item worn or carried by the model.
Some of the portraits in our galleries were made with the Cat Mansion or Dark and Light Elves mods.
Cat Mansion offers anime-style sort-of-super-deformed bobble-headed models and expands the selection of gear to include kimonos, bikinis, sailor suits; and a variety of domestic items as weapons, such as brooms and frying pans.
Dark and Light Elves offers a nice female (elf) model, moderately superior to the more angular human models. Various outfits like dresses and thigh-high boots are introduced, and armour is worn differently compared to the original human model (in the comparison below, the basic Dungeon Siege model is on the left):
