The Fantasy Art of Dungeon Siege II: Broken World - Boss Monsters - Despular and Baelusar, the Familiar Surgeons

Baldur's Gate is a series of fantasy computer role-playing games set in the "Forgotten Realms" Dungeons & Dragons game world. It uses the Infinity Engine and Dungeons and Dragons game rules. The complete story arc is covered by Baldur's Gate, Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn, and the Throne of Bhaal expansion. The Tales of the Sword Coast expansion reveals additional areas but is not plot-critical. The Dungeon Siege II fantasy game art on this page has screenshots of the familiar surgeon boss monsters despular and baelusar from the dungeon siege 2 broken world expansion.

There are two Familiar Surgeons: Despular, who lairs in some ruins and from whom the heroes get the key to unlock Calennor Stronghold to reach the second surgeon, Baelusar. Baelusar fights in a similar manner to Despular, except it has one additional attack, a life-decaying mist. Both can belch bouncing acid balls from their bloated bodies, animate Crawlers from piles of butchered creature parts, and heal themselves by draining the life from those animated creatures.

Many years ago, Lorethal and his Crimson Hunters banished the entire race of Familiars from Aranna. Their leaders, the cunning and cruel 'Surgeons' Despular and Baelusar, never forgave the Elves. When the Overmage offered them a chance for revenge, they laid siege to Aman'lu in the cruelest way possible.

Familiar Surgeons are cruel artisans, tearing apart the lesser creatures of the world and reassembling them as powerful, bloodthirsty slaves. They enjoy the pain their experiments inflict on their subjects, and they relish the misery the Elves feel when their own brothers and sisters turn against them. If the Surgeons are not stopped, their horrific armies will overwhelm all of Aranna.
